Job Introduction

This role has a starting salary of £19,560 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week.

This role is a 24 month Fixed Term apprenticeship opportunity.

We are very excited to be recruiting a Business Administration Level 3 Apprentice for the fantastic Early Careers team here at Surrey County Council.

We strive to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups, particularly those with EHCP’s or any additional needs.

About Us

The Early Careers team look after the council’s Early Careers Programme (including Apprenticeships, Work Experience and T-Level Industry Placements) with the aim of offering outstanding opportunities for young people to help kickstart their careers in the best possible way.

We feel you’ll gain the most out of your apprenticeship by being around colleagues, seeing the way we work and being able to ask questions whenever necessary. As such, you’ll predominantly be working in our Reigate office, although there will be some room for working from home, to be agreed with your line manager. Occasionally, some travel to other locations within Surrey will be required to help us out at various careers events.

What you will be doing

We want this apprenticeship to be an opportunity for you to gain experience across a wide range of duties putting you in the best position to succeed in your apprenticeship qualification and take the first steps on your career journey! In this role, you will:

  • Monitor our mailbox, answering the various queries that come through to us from people who work within Surrey and our partners outside it.
  • After getting used to our IT systems, you’ll be entering data and working with the team to spot trends.
  • Work with the team to assist with the planning and organising of various meetings, workshops and events.
  • Help out at Career Events in schools and colleges to help promote the Council’s amazing career development opportunities.
  • Play a big part in our new Career Starter Apprentice Network, you’ll be part of a network aiming to support all of our apprentices as they go through their learning journey.

We won’t be expecting you to jump in and be able to do this all from day one. You’ll first go through an induction period allowing you to get used to the office and the team. As you gain more confidence in your role, you’ll be supported to do more and more!

The learning side of your apprenticeship will be delivered by Surrey Adult Learning with face-to-face workshops taking place once a month. As you progress through your course, you’ll have one-to-ones with training assessors between once a week and once a month depending on your needs. On average, you’ll spend 4 days a week working and learning on the job and 1 day a week studying and completing work towards your qualification (which will be the equivalent of 2 A-Levels).

As your qualification comes to an end and you begin to turn your eye to the future, we have a fantastic support programme in place that will put you in the best position to take the next step on your exciting career journey. Our desire is for all our apprenticeships to be the first step on a long and successful career journey within SCC.

Applying with us is simple! We aren’t asking for a CV; all we ask is that you answer a few questions about yourself and the role you're applying for to see if this job is a good match for you! They will be:

  1. What excites you about applying for this apprenticeship?
  2. Tell us about a time when you took the initiative to learn something new outside of education. It could be a hobby, skill, or subject that interested you. How did you go about learning it? What did you gain from the experience? Did you come up against any challenges?
  3. Describe a team project or group activity you were involved in. What was your role in the team? How did you contribute to the overall success of the team? Did you come up against any obstacles? How did you overcome them?
  4. Part of our work involves engaging with young people to help them understand the career opportunities within the council and attract them to work here. Thinking about your own experience and knowledge, could you suggest 3 ideas you would use to best engage and communicate with students when looking to attract them to work for Surrey County Council?
